Description

Butterfly Weed or Pleursy Root (Asclepias tuberosa) Of all the milkweeds, this one tends to be the hardest to grow. The plants dislike spring temperature fluctuations and often succomb to rot. Worth planting if you have a space that is dry and sunny – can be planted with other plants susceptible to rot issues, like lavenders, baikal skullcap, echinacea angustifolia, etc.

Milkweeds are famous for being the food plant for the caterpillars of Monarch Butterflies. They are wonderful native plants that support a huge range of diverse life – you’ll find an ecosystem on a single plant!
