Description
Also known as Rosinweed
Hardy to Zones 6 to 10
Harvest by gathering flower heads at height of sunny hot season.
Tincturing, to dissolve the resin, is a great way to use this herb medicinally. Gumweed relaxes and tones the upper respiratory tract – used for treating chronic respiratory issues like asthma and emphysema.
Also used in a salve or oil as a topical rememdy for insect bites and rashes such as poison ivy. You can also just simply rub a freshly picked flower on the affected itchy site. Think of gumweed as a drying, protective, and healing influence.
A great soap ingredient too!
There are over 50 species of Grindelia, all native to the Americas – mainly in western North America.
