Description
Asclepias speciosa is very similar in style to the Common Milkweed most of us are used to around here. Showy Milkweed has different individual flowers though – with longer, tapered petals that are covered with fine hairs. Showy milkweed is a more elegant milkweed and spreads less aggressively.
Not picky about soil types, but need full sun.
Excellent nectar sources, and the leaves are food for the larval stages of Monarch and Queen butterflies.
The flowers attract many butterflies and hummingbirds.
Height to 3 feet
Blooms June, July, August
