Description

Amsonia ‘Blue Ice’ is a compact, low-maintenance, drought-tolerant native perennial/shrub featuring deep lavender-blue, star-shaped flowers in late spring and striking yellow fall foliage. Growing 12–18 inches tall and wide, it is an ideal, deer-resistant choice for borders, rock gardens, and mass planting in full sun to partial shade.

Features deep navy blue buds opening to lavender-blue, star-shaped flowers from late spring to early summer. Compact, shrub-like habit, typically growing 12–15 inches tall and up to 24 inches wide. Willow-like green leaves in summer that turn a striking golden-yellow in the fall.

Prefers full sun for the best structure and fall color, but tolerates part shade. Adaptable to various soils, including clay, but prefers well-drained conditions. Low-maintenance, rabbit/deer resistant. Hardy in Zones 4–9.

Ideal for garden borders, edging pathways, or as a focal point in a cottage garden.
This plant is noted for being less prone to flopping than other Amsonia varieties
