Description
Big Bluestem Grass – also called Turkey Foot Grass
A long-lived, ornamental, perennial, native grass.
Very tall – gets to 6 feet. Great for screening and privacy. Blooms late summer into the fall, providing nesting materials for songbirds.
Foliage is a gorgeous dark color – emerging deep green to dark purple in spring and deepening to near black by fall. In late summer, Big Bluestem flaunts airy, three-parted, finger-like seed head clusters resembling a turkey’s foot.
Magical when backlit with the golden setting sun. Can self sow and naturalizes readily.
Drought tolerant. Does best in Full Sun; not picky about soil.
