Description
The Jersey blueberry is a highly reliable, cold-hardy, and productive heirloom (introduced in 1928) ideal for home gardens, offering 5-8 foot tall, vigorous, upright bushes that yield large crops of medium-sized, very sweet dark blue berries. It is known for its wide adaptability to soil types, excellent baking qualities, and late-season harvest.
Known as a heavy producer, this variety often yields 7-10 pounds of fruit per bush, with berries ripening late in the season (July-August). The berries are very sweet and medium-sized, making them ideal for eating fresh, in jams, or baking. It is highly cold-hardy (Zones 4-8) and adaptable to various soil types, making it easier to manage than many other, more delicate varieties.
The plant serves as an excellent ornamental, featuring a large, upright shape, white flowers in spring, and fiery orange-red fall foliage.
Self-Fertile: While it produces larger crops with a pollinator (like Elliott or Darrow), it is partially self-fertile, allowing it to produce fruit on its own.
