Description
Chrysanthemum ‘Matchsticks’ is a compact, hardy, 16–24 inch tall perennial known for its unique, quill-shaped, golden-yellow petals with vibrant red tips, resembling flaming matches. It thrives in full sun, flowers from late summer to fall, and is excellent for borders, containers, or cut flower arrangements.
Produces flowers in late summer, often reblooming in early-to-mid fall (September/October). Zone 5-9; typically forms compact, upright, and mounded, woody-stemmed plants. Requires full sun for best results, though it tolerates light shade. Thrives in average, well-drained soil. Low maintenance, but benefits from pinching stems back by mid-summer for a bushier, more compact shape. Spreads via rhizomes, potentially becoming larger over time.
