Elecampane Workshop (Friday, September 26th 2025)

Unless you’ve hung out a bit at Midsummer Farm, you may not have even heard of Elecampane  (Inula helenium) – but around here, we consider it a miracle herb. We make sure we always have Elecampane roots on hand – both dried and frozen. Elecampane is our go-to treatment for any bronchial issues or heavy coughing and congestion. During this workshop, we will talk all about the great ways we use elecampane as an herbal medicine. And we will also discuss how it achieves the healing effects – it is not a simple expectorant…. This wonderful herb works on a deep level, warming and restoring vital energy to the body – and is specifically good at working with the respiratory system. It stimulates the circulation and warms and nourishes, thus breaking up stagnation and deep-seated coldness and dampness. Even the aroma and steam of the tea creates a sense of true relaxation, as the body recognizes that it is drawing in vital energy through this wonderful root.

We will also visit our Elecampane staged-by-age growing area, where you will meet these stunning plants in all their glory! We will harvest some 3 year old roots together and process them. Students will go home with roots to dry and have on hand in their homes for their herbal medicinal cabinet, as well as an Elecampane plant for their herb garden. Elecampane plants are also available from our plant nursery.

Workshop is hands-on and takes place at Midsummer Farm.

IMPORTANT NOTES: All events, workshops, etc. must be registered and paid for in advance. We cannot accommodate people or children without previous notice. This is a working farm, and most workshops are geared toward adults; no dogs or other animals are allowed.
