Description

Blue-Stemmed Goldenrod – Solidago caesia. A wonderful native although not very common … This is a sprawling and polite goldenrod with whorls of yellow flowers going up the stems and a blue tone to the foliage. This is also sometimes called Wreath Goldenrod.

Goldenrods are wonderful native plants that contribute so much to the land – supports honeybees and native pollinators and other beneficial insects.

On our farm, we have 3 different goldenrods that volunteer and that thrive. I fell in love with Zig Zag and Blue-Stemmed Goldenrod, as they have more sprawling habits with small balls of flowers interspaced with leaves on their arching stems. These are polite spreaders. There are over 30 native species of goldenrod in our area! (If you need any of the more common goldenrods as plants, email me and I can dig some for you!)

Goldenrod blossoms are featured in several of our most effective healing salves, make a wonderful bright tea, and are one of my favorite things to dye with!
