Zig Zag Goldenrod – Solidago flexicaulis
Goldenrods are wonderful native plants that contribute so much to the land – supports honeybees and native pollinators and other beneficial insects.
On our farm, we have 3 different goldenrods that volunteer and that thrive. I fell in love with Zig Zag and Blue-Stemmed Goldenrod, as they have more sprawling habits with small balls of flowers interspaced with leaves on their arching stems, so I added these two over the past years. These are polite spreaders. But there are over 30 native species of goldenrod in our area! (If you need any of the more common goldenrods as plants, email me and I can dig some for you!) And rest assured, I am planning to add more and more species of goldenrods each year!
Goldenrod blossoms are featured in several of our most effective healing salves, make a wonderful bright tea, and are one of my favorite things to dye with!
August 19th 2023 – We are having a Goldenrod Festival here!
