Description
Gooseneck Loosestrife is in the notoriously invasive loosestrife family, and it does spread. But it usually fills a large swath of space and stops. And it does need to be allowed to grow into a large space as it is simply stunning planted en masses. An amazing-looking flower – the patch looks like hundreds of white curvy goose-neck-like towers of flowers. Flower heads follow the sun across the sky. This is also a great cut flower. Striking and unusual in a vase. A big favorite of ours!
Lysimachia clethroides is not native to North America, but supports a rather rare and unusual specialized native bee, Macropis nuda (sometimes called oil bees), which harvest an oil (as well as a pollen) from the flowers of the genus that their larvae depend upon.
