Hazelnut – Jefferson (2-3′ tall seedling, gallon pot)

Description

This is a European Hazelnut – which will act as great pollinators for American Hazelnut trees – (Corylus americana). You don’t need two different hazelnuts, but you do get better harvests when you do. Plus I like having the diversity of species.

Full sun – suckers will come up from the bottom, and should be pruned off. Can turn into a thicket pretty fast.

Both male and female flowers appear on each tree. Bloom happens in late winter to early spring on the still-bare branches. The male flowers are bright catkins, and you can spot the more subtle female flowers are just above…
