Description
Meadowsweetcis a fabulous tall and regal herb – easy to grow once it gets established. Flowers are held in big cloud-like clusters – can get to 6 feet tall. A nice match to plant with valerian. Flowers are white with a bit pink behind them and smell wonderful and almond-like.
Although Meadowsweet gets pigeon-holed as ‘herbal aspirin’ – I use it mostly for its cooling astringent qualities. This quality allows it to effectively treat digestive track issues, urinary tract issues, gout, arthritis, and more. I mostly use it as a tea – fresh or dried or as a tincture. I also use dried blossoms in salve making …
In July 2025, I will be conducting a Meadowsweet Intensive Herb Day here at Midsummer Farm!
Needs moisture – but tends to do fine in average garden soil. Sun or part sun.
This herb is sometimes called Queen of the Meadow; its cousin, native herb Filipendula rubra – a pink-flowered version – is known as Queen of the Prairie.
