Description
An old 1928 Paeonia lactiflora hybrid peony, Krinkled white is considered by many to be one of the finest peonies. As much as I love the opulence of double peonies, Krinkled White is like a dramatic version of an original wild peony – so perfectly peony – archetypal!
Sturdy stems, with loads of large, 6″ single white flowers with crepe-paper textured petals highlighted by a large tuft of bright yellow stamens. Krinkled White also provides a heat-tolerant option for your peony collection, which is great to provide options with our volatile spring weather.
Zone 4-8. Peonies like it cold – I am planting them using white-colored weed fabric to keep the soil cooler rather than warmer in the spring.
Krinkled White blooms late May. Height: 24-34 inches tall. Lactiflora type.
Peonies are hearty and quite easy to grow – once they get established, they come back year after year, maturing into dependable sources of opulent flowery abundance and great cut flowers. Full Sun (6+ hours will provide best flowering) but they will still bloom in Part Shade. Deer and Ground Hog resistant. Peonies will go dormant in late summer, simply remove old stalks in September. Bees do enjoy peony flowers and these open flowers are more inviting than many peonies to bees.
Best grown in well drained soil with good fertility. Providing support especially with heavy rain is a good practice with peonies in general, although this single flowering variety does quite well in rain.
