Description
I’ve been growing Shirley Temple Peonies for a couple years now, and I really love them. Flowers are doubles with abundant lightest pink blushed white petals that age into a pure white, sometimes with little streaks of dark pink here and there… I find the coloration varies year to year with the weather … very dramatic peony.
Shirley Temple peonies also truly smell like rose…
Zone 3-8. Peonies like it cold – I am planting them using white-colored weed fabric to keep the soil cooler rather than warmer in the spring.
Shirley Temple blooms late Spring/early summer. Height: 24-38 inches tall
Peonies are hearty and quite easy to grow – once they get established, they come back year after year, maturing into dependable sources of opulent flowery abundance and great cut flowers. Full Sun (6+ hours will provide best flowering) but they will still bloom in Part Shade. Deer and Ground Hog resistant. Peonies will go dormant in late summer, simply remove old stalks in September. Bees do enjoy peony flowers.
Best grown in well drained soil with good fertility. Providing support especially with heavy rain is a good practice.
