Description
Pasqualino is an older type of Radicchio – known as a Rosso di Verona- (very rare in the U.S.) Heads are about the size of a fist with a prominent central white midrib on the leaves. There is a lovely interplay between the bitterness of the leaf and the sweetness of the white midrib especially well into the fall and into periods of consistent frosts.
Radicchios can be a bit tricky to grow but well worth it as the freshly harvested radicchio heads – or chinchons – are absolutely fabulous compared to the store-bought ones! Planting in mid/late summer for fall harvesting is probably best around here…
