Description
Rodgersia aesculifolia, sometimes called Fingerleaf Rodgersia. A bold statement plant – clump-forming, rhizomatous perennial that grows to 3-5’ tall and as wide.
It is a substantial plant that will naturalize by thick black rhizomes. It is native to moist woods and stream banks in China.
Although the flowers are certainly cool, I love this plant mainly for its foliage. Leaves are attractive, large, crinkled, toothed, palmate, and deep, dark green with bronze tinting… Leaves resemble those of the horsechestnut, thus the name, aesculus.
Likes full sun to part shade and moist, rich soil.
