Description

Scallion – Heshiko  – Welsh Onion Style. Can be grown in annual style rows or as perennial clumps.

Heshiko or He-Shi-Ko are wonderfully flavored scallions that you can enjoy and depend on almost all year long once you get them established. Mild and Bright green onion flavor.

Perennial, open-pollinated, heirloom, cold tolerant, drought tolerant, bunching onion.

Suitable for growing in greenhouses, garden plots, raised beds, and containers. This Japanese bunching onion or scallion produces tender leaves with white 12-14 inch stalks. The onion has delicious, white, pungent flesh.

Of the various scallions I offer, Heshiko is probably the most winter hardy …

While it is a perennial, it is most often grown as an annual or biennial. These bunching onions are also known as Welsh onions, meaning ‘foreign’ when introduced to Europe in the Middle Ages.

There are many plants or sets per pot!
To grow as annuals – split up the pot of seedlings into individual sets and plant 2-3 inches apart.
To grow as perennials – don’t split up the pot – simply lift the whole clump of sets into the spot you want them to grow permanently.
