Description

Society Garlic is can be grown as an unusual house plant.

Why “Society”? Most people say that it is because it has a strong garlic flavor to the leaves yet supposedly doesn’t cause the bad breath that normal garlic has a reputation for. I personally feel that the scent is a bit unappealing for eating, and I view it as a sophisticated parlor style plant.

Flowers are attractive and held aloft of the dark green thick leaves. Blooms last a long time.

Native to the dry and rocky grasslands in eastern South Africa, society garlic enjoys dryish and well-drained soil and a sunny location like a south-facing window sill.
