Sweetfern Shrub (quart pot)

Description

Sweet Fern Shrub – Comptonia peregrina. A native shrub with aromatic and dramatically shaped foliage. A great tea plant. I love the leaves crushed with ice cubes as a cold infusion in the summer. Also is great dried (flavor and scent is enhanced when it dries, like bayleaves…) and mixed with salt as a new condiment – great for various cocktails as well as savory recipes.

Will form a thick stand – propagates from runners. Leaves are enamoring with a tatted or scalloped look… Mine are thriving in a part shade location, facing north, in crappy soil… I really love it alongside Bayberry Shrubs and Carolina Allspice.
